Hi, I’m Karen, and I am so thankful that you are visiting my blog.  Ha!  Blog.  Honestly, I can’t believe I’m blogging!  But, I’ve been mulling over it for the past few years, so I decided it was time to try it.  Nothing is more difficult for me than to put my work and my words out “to the world.”   But, as a business owner, it’s beneficial, so, here I am!

Over the past 4 years, I’ve built my business by building relationships with my clients, and I’ve been blessed to have met many wonderful people (and pets). Like most photographers out there today, I began taking pictures of my beautiful children, which in turn, after a few photography and business classes,  led to a business.  Starting my own business has to be the most difficult thing I have ever done!  (Aside from saying good-bye to my best friend and husband as he deployed to Iraq for a year!)  Starting a business takes courage, drive, and humility.  I’ve grown in each of those areas, right along with my business!

The best thing I love about KPP is that it is a family affair. It’s not just about Karen.  My husband, now home from his tour with the Marine Corps, is my business manager.  (I just like to take pictures!)   He keeps me grounded, for sure.  Hank also has learned the technical side of my first camera, Canon’s 40D.  He’s shot as a second shooter at weddings with me, and the experience working with him on that level has been dreamy.
My son, Jackson, has taken up photography as well.  He’s been on a few shoots with me as my back up shooter, and he loves it.  I can’t wait until he is older and shoots with me more.
My littlest, Vivian, loves bananas, shoes, and purses.  She’s my model, and hopefully will pick up a camera in a few years.  (But only if she wants to!)

I adore taking pictures of kids and families, maternity and newborns, seniors, and weddings…but lately my truer passion has become pets!  Three things in life make me feel a closer connection with God:  1. my children, as they are both answered prayers, 2. the ocean and it’s enormity, and 3. animals and their beauty, honesty and unwavering devotion.  They fill my heart with so much joy!

All in all it has been a wonderful 4 years.  I’m thankful for the blessings in my life and for the opportunity to work with such wonderful people and animals.  Doesn’t get any better:-)

    Hey Karen–

Congrats on your first blog post! Love your header pic! My cousin, who just had triplets, took her babies to a baby photographer who got some great shots. Her photographer was featured in a news story on one of the Austin, TX, television stations, and I saw how tough it could be photographing newborns…:)

Thank you Donna! I’m kinda excited about this blog thing! 🙂 It can be tough photographing newborns! I usually block off at least a 2 hour shoot period for a newborn session..with all the feedings and fussiness and naps..it’s always unpredictable.

Congrats on blogging Karen. I have started a blog as well, about a year ago. Have I entered anything since starting it – NO! Ha! – hope you have better ‘stic- to-it-ness’ than I have. Love your work.

  5. Beautiful picture at the top, Karen. And what gorgeous children. I can totally see the love–of them, for them, and for the work you do. What a joy for you and for us. Keep up the good work, and keep us posted of your self-discoveries!
