Don’t say “cheese!”

April 5, 2012 by Karen

Lovin’ the way this Spring session turned out!   My favorite shots are the funnest..the ones where I succeed in capturing the natural smile, belly laugh, actual kid, and not the “cheeeeeeeeeeese!!”    My philosophy is, whatever it takes!   I will bring out the bubbles, chalk, twirly gigs, and the famous Sophie the giraffe to get a child comfortable and laughing.  It’s more important for me that a child is at ease in front of my lens…that’s the only time I know I’ll get that perfect picture.  Actually, now that I’m blogging and thinking about it, the same goes for the adults in front of my lens…minus the bubbles, chalk, whirly gigs, and Sophie the giraffe!

Lil’ Norman

Little Norman was all of 5 lbs.  when I first met him for his newborn session.  Look at him now at 6 months!  They grow so fast.  And the changes they go through.. I’m amazed at how much mine change on a daily basis…expressions, mannerisms, moods.  These are the things that I love capturing with my lens.  And I love building relationships with my clients, like Norman’s family.  I get so excited to see how they change and grow over the months and sometimes years between shoots.  Hmm, calling them clients…just doesn’t sound quite right!  They become much more than that.  See you in 3 months Norman!  Can’t wait to see how you are smiling then:-)

Shout out to my hubby

So, while playing around in the studio after a shoot, Hank took this picture of me…..  The lighting, oh I just love the lighting!   My hubby is talented, no doubt.   Ok, ok, he doesn’t just shoot with me.  He has so many roles, I honestly don’t know how he keeps up. But somehow, he does!  Project manager and U.S. Marine, but, more often he is my motivator, my protector, my truest love,  my better half..hands down.  He lifts me up..and I thank God everyday for bringing him into my life.  He has taken on the role of managing the business for KPP.  I ‘strongly dislike’ all of that “businessy” stuff.  I’m emotionally driven and often make decisions based on my feelings and my heart..not always good for business, but, it’s who I am.  Who says thinking with your heart is always a bad thing?   Anyway, that’s where Hank comes in, protecting KP and KPP.  I big puffy heart him.

Look who’s 4!

This was such a fun shoot.  It was short, and sweet!  Little Miss H ran right into the studio ready to pose and have fun.  I have to admit, I don’t like to pose my subjects.  I prefer the more natural look, and candids are my absolute fave.  But this little darling was a natural, even with posing!  She had just turned 4, and proud of it!

I remember taking my little boy’s 4 year-old pictures.  It was at the time that I was starting my photography business, so he modeled for me often.  That seems like yesterday!  Don’t blink, they grow up so fast!
